Choosing Metal Roofing Fasteners
The right starting point is the connection: what are you attaching, and what is underneath it? A painted screw head that matches the roof is only one part of choosing a fastener.
Start with the application
- Metal to wood: metal panels attached to wood framing. FastGrip and other metal-to-wood families offer different lengths and thread designs.
- Metal to metal: metal attached to steel. Check drill-point capacity against the actual steel thickness.
- Wood to metal: wood attached to steel. Winged fasteners are a separate product type; do not substitute a roofing screw based on length alone.
- Panel stitching: overlapping panels or flashings joined together. These are not interchangeable with the screws securing panels to framing.
Check the installation requirements
Use the panel manufacturer’s fastening schedule and the project specifications to determine spacing, length and required penetration. Confirm whether a bonded sealing washer is required. Some catalog parts have no washer; review the part details before adding them.
Match the finish
Choose an appropriate material and coating for the environment and connected materials. Click a color sample on the product page, and provide the panel manufacturer and exact color code when appearance matters. Screen samples are approximate.
Order by the pack
Our screw listings show bags of 250 and the supplier’s box count where available. Enter the number of packs and check the total screw count. Box sizes vary by part and length. Keep different lengths and colors on separate cart lines.
Send a clear request
Include the part number, application, panel and framing thickness, quantity, color code and delivery ZIP code. If you are replacing failed fasteners, describe the existing connection and condition so suitability can be confirmed before ordering.
